Amazing Life Story

 

Sharon Heidland has an amazing life story that went from not going to Mass or Confession in college and spending plenty of times at parties to becoming a religious sister of the Society of Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity (SOLT). She now goes by Sister Miriam James. The Register recenlty did an article about her life story - take a look here.

Cardinal Van Thuan of Vietnam

The Church is beginning to collect info on the sancity of Cardinal Van Thuan of Vietnam to see if he might one day be declared a saint. He spent 13 years in prision for his Catholic faith under a communist regime. Take a look at the video below about his heroic life. He wrote some great books like Testimony of Hope and Five Loaves and Two Fish.

Priests in Movies

 
Life Teen did a great podcast recently on the way priests are portrayed in movies, both more recent and older movies. They spend some time talking about great Catholic movies like The Mission and also some other movies that have both good and bad elements for the Catholic priesthood like Keeping the Faith. Pope to Seminarians

 
Pope Benedict recently wrote a letter to seminarians. It was a very moving letter where he opened up about his own personal life. In the letter he encourages seminarians to be men of God, to retain popular piety, to study and be open to growth in human maturity, to name a few things! He expresses some of the challenges faced with being a seminarian today but, as always, provides hope to keep moving forward towards the Lord. Read his letter here.

Chilean Miners

 

The world was eagerly watching as the 33 Chilean miners were rescued one-by-one after spending over 2 months stuck in a shaft underground. Well one of the men who worked so hard at rescuing the miners is preparing for the permanent Diaconate in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. Read about his role in rescuing the miners, his love for the Church and his upcoming Diaconate ordination from Catholic News Agency.

Blessed John XXIII

October 11, 1962 was the opening of 2nd Vatican Council by Pope John XXIII - a monumental day to say the least. Pope John Paul II made October 11 the feast day of Blessed Pope John XXIII. Fr.
