It turns out people do people do want to see fervent Catholic sisters on Oprah. A little while back the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist made an appearance on Oprah. The show was such a success that another episode of Oprah and the Dominican Sisters will be airing on November 23 - check your local listing! These Dominican sisters have been experiencing the fruit of their works - they recently purchased the JPII Cultural Center in Washington DC due to the great increase in vocations to the order. Promising signs for religious life in the future.
Life Teen did a great podcast recently on the way priests are portrayed in movies, both more recent and older movies. They spend some time talking about great Catholic movies like The Mission and also some other movies that have both good and bad elements for the Catholic priesthood like Keeping the Faith. The Ordination Mass of Coadjutor Bishop David M. O’Connell is coming up this Friday, July 30, at 2pm at St. Mary of the Assumption Cathedral in Trenton. The Mass is going to be extensively broadcast - you can watch it on the Diocesan website, EWTN, Catholic TV! If you want to build a new Church sometimes you have to be creative to raise money. Fr. Andrew Trapp did just that. He went on Fox TV's poker show and won $100,000 - all money is being donated to the construction of a new Church. It is possible that he can still win the million dollar prize. Everyone knows that Opus Dei has not always received a fair shake in the media, think Da Vinci Code, well today seems different then the past. The Times (a Trenton newspaper) ran a story about a 13 week series on EWTN about St. Josemaria Escriva. The show is aptly titled St. Josemaria Escriva and Opus Dei and was filmed entirely in South Orange, NJ. The secular paper gave fair treatment to St. Josemaria/Opus Dei and EWTN - see miracles do still happen! Read their coverage here. The New York Times also ran a positive story some time back about a possible upcoming movie on St. Josemaria. The director made a name for himself with films such as The Mission.
