There is a new law being put forward in Ireland that would force Irish priests to disclose what they hear in the Confessional - well you can imagine the response of Irish priests. Of coarse they are saying they cannot disclose confessional material no matter what - a position the Church clearly and steadfastly defends. Read more about this here.

New Archbishop of Philadelphia

The Archdiocese of Philadelphia will have a new Archbishop on September 8 in Charles Chaput. Bishop on Joplin Tornado

Bishop James Johnston is the Bishop of the Diocese of Springfield-Cape Girardeau. Joplin Missouri, where deadly tornado's recently struck taking many lives, is within his Diocese. The Catholic hospital in that town was devastated by the tornado along with the Catholic parish and rectory. Bishop Johnston has offered some words of encouragement to those who have lost so much - read more from Catholic News Agency.

On May 22 at St. Mary's Cathedral in Trenton Bishop Smith gathered with family, friends and people of the great Diocese of Trenton to celebrate his 50th priestly anniversary. Chrism Mass

 
On Monday April 19 the Chrism Mass was celebrated in the Cathedral of St. Mary in Trenton. The Chrism Mass is when the holy oils that are used in parishes throughout the Diocese are blessed by the Bishop. Bishop O'Connell in his homily spoke about the oils that are blessed at the Mass. Bishop O'Connell also spoke very movingly to the priests of the Diocese about how priestly ministry is rooted in the one Truth of Jesus Christ and His holy Church and how all priestly ministry flows from this one truth.
