Tomorrow is the annual March for Life in Washington, DC. I'll be there, with many of you, freezing in DC.
This morning my father asked me why we do this, why do we go through all this trouble? A lot of people ask that same question. For one answer alll we need to do is look at the recent news out of Philadelphia.

For years the PA health department ignored what was going on in this clinic. People ask why. Here's what grand jury said: “We think the reason no one acted is because the women in question were poor and of color,” the report said, “and because the victims were infants without identities, and because the subject was the political football of abortion.”
If you think this was an isolated incident, think again.
From the same article: The clinic had as little regard for the patients’ dignity as it had for their safety. The doctor would arrive late, often after 8 p.m., leaving the untrained staff, including Dr. Gosnell’s wife, Pearl, a cosmetologist, to sedate the women and administer labor-inducing drugs, the report said.
If you continue reading the article you will learn that there were complaints against Dr. Gosnell that date back to 1983. Yet no inspector set foot in the clinic for over 16 years.
Why, why do many abortion clinics get special treatments from health departments? This is not the first time that we've heard about a health departnment ignoring serious complains, or failing to inspect abortion clinics. This is not the first time we've heard of abortion clinics having filthy conditions, or allowing unlicensed people to perform abortions. There have even been cases where doctors were allowed to continue as abortionists even after having their medical licence revoked.
The Catholic Church and all pro-life groups have been saying that abortion HURTS WOMEN. The news coming out of Philly is just one example of this.
Why was this allowed to happen? Why did the health department ignore what was going on in that clinic? Is the grand jury correct? Is it because many of these women were poor and black? That's part of it. Is it because this is such a policital subject? That's part of it too. Is it about money? Yes, it's that too. Is it about carring for the health of a woman? No, the deparentment of health's actions were clearly not about caring for women.
The abortion industry has a very powerful lobby and a powerful voice. A voice that "pro-choice" politicians in every level of government are listening too. But their voices are not the only voices.
Tomorrow, about 200,000 of us will be in Washington, DC to show our support for the unborn, and for the women (as well as men) who are suffering because of abortion.
And we will not rest until everyone hears the truth, that abortion is violence aganst children and the exploitation of women. Abortion is destroying lives, both born and unborn.
Tomorrow we will be in DC, being a voice for those who have no voice.
We are asking those of you who cannot join us to pray for:
- an end to abortion
- all of the women and men whose lives have been torn apart because of abortion
- the conversion of abortion clinic doctors and workers,
- politicians - that they will protect and defend all human life
- for each of us, that we will always have the strength and committment to speak out for life.
If you are near a Catholic Church, please stop by tomorrow to sit with Jesus and pray for life.
Please say a prayer for all of us who will be traveling to DC tomorrow, it's going to be cold out there.
Effie
